The SWC 2011 took place in the City of Kassel, the centre of the German renewable energy sector - industry, research and education. In Kassel there are numerous high-tech enterprises with even an own regional management for Renewable Energy. This branch offers jobs for more than 12.000 employees in different companies and research institutes. Furthermore there are more than 100 PhD-students, working on - various research topics in internationally recognized institutes, most connected with Kassel University.

Kassel itself is situated in the center of Germany and can easily be reached from all main German Airports, by rail and by motorways.
The venue Kongress Palais Kassel combined the traditional historic conference site with an interior of modern conference facilities which has been rewarded as the “Best Center 2007“ by the European Society of Event Centers.
